First day of school 2012

Today, I sent my first baby off to kindergarten. Brooke has been excited for kindergarten since last spring when she found out that in kindergarten, you didn't have to take a nap. Instead, they get to read quietly.  For months, Brooke has been asking when it will be August so she can start her new McNeal school. We're all starting Luci at a new preschool, Primrose.  Luci has been a little shy about this, but has been trying to duplicate Brooke's excitement over starting a new school

Last week, we visited both girls schools. Luci visited Primrose to get oriented and Brooke went to her classroom for Open House and met Mrs. Newby, Brooke's teacher.  Brooke loved her new room and didn't want to leave.

Last night, we started our back to school routine and got our lunch and backpacks all ready. Brooke couldn't stop asking, "what else can we do to get ready?" This year, Brooke will get to take the bus, but the whole family dropped her off in person today.  Brooke was a little disappointed about this, but was satisfied that tomorrow she'll get to go on the big yellow bus. We were all ready early this morning and trooped outside for our pictures.
We got to McNeal extra early and got to hand out the 'brown bear' name tags to all our new friends.
Luci and I waited with Brooke in the hallway until the bell rang. Before that could happen, Brooke comes up to me and says "Mommy, I think I am going to have a fun time.  You can go now."  Of course, every other kid still had parents their, so I told her I was going to wait until she went into her classroom. When the bell rang, Brooke went right to her seat and called to me across the room, "When do we get to color?" She was anxious for the parents to leave so she could start her kindergarten life!

I'm glad I still had my little Luci with me, but I had to take her to Primrose today, too. Drop off was not quite as easy, and we both shed a few tears, but the school has already called twice to tell me how good she's doing.

Here's to a good school year for everyone!

Wisconsin 2012

We had a family trip to Wisconsin the last week in July to visit our extended Palmtag family. These are the princesses at the airport. They are becoming seasoned travellers and it's funny when people ask us if this is their first time on an airplane.  I can't even count the number of times they've flown!
When we got to Milwaukee, we had a great reunion with the whole Palmtag clan - all the family and grandkids were there for a big family dinner. The next day, we headed to Door County  for a mini-vacation at the Palmatg Cottage. As soon as we got there, the girls had to explore Grandpa's long dock on Sturgeon Bay.

Matt saved a birthday present for both girls to give them at the cottage - new 'big kid' fishing poles.' They tried them out of the dock and Brooke learned how to cast on her own.

Matt and Grandpa took the kids on a few fishing trips and Luci caught the first fish.

We had some rainstorms and saw a beautiful rainbow over the lake. It was so big that both ends didn't fit in the picture.

We took the kids to a local Petting Zoo/farm and the girls fed baby goats out of bottles and corn to the bigger animals.  Brooke's favorite part were the baby kittens and the horses.  Luci finally got brave enough to let the big goats and sheep eat out of her hand.

Umm. . . goats, can you get out of our way?

Palmtag Family Fishing Trip

Last Friday, we had an unexpected day off at home as a whole family.  Matt decided the weather would be perfect for the whole family to head out on the boat for a fishing trip.  We got up early, and put Luci in the car with her Minnie Mouse pjs still on, and headed to the coast.  After catching bait, Matt found a great spot where the fish were biting. He rigged up the girls' new fishing poles and the fish started biting immediately. The girls caught a few trout and a lot of catfish (no pics of those!). Brooke has got the hang of handling the rod and Luci still needs some muscle power from mommy to help get the fish to the boat.

 and her 2nd trout.
 Luci with her 1st trout.

After this, Matt moved us to a new spot near some mangrove islands.  we watched some dolphin feeding for a while, then Matt set the girls rods out.  Immediately, Luci got a hit and this is what she got!

The redfish is almost as big as her! She spent a lot of time examining the fish and touching them.

Brooke caught this mangrove snapper and then we started getting a little toasty in the sun, so we went to one more spot before we headed to the beach.

Brooke reeled in this beautiful snook!

Matt showed them how to release it properly.

Brooke also caught her own redfish which was a little too small to keep.

We took the boat over to a beach near Anna Maria island and splashed in the water for a while to cool off.
