We decided to take a mini-vacation this 4th of July. We only have the girls in school 2 days a week during the summer and Monday is one of their normal days. Since it was obviously a holiday, school was cancelled and we faced the dilemma of 'what do we do with these maniacs for 7 days?!' The answer was to break up the time and keep busy. We headed to Marco Island to stay at my parents condo for a few days. Staying there was like a trip down memory lane since we lived there for a few months 2 years ago when we first arrived in Florida. Of course, that was when Brooke was 2 years old - just like Luci is now. Watching Luci march around the condo in the same outfits that Brooke used to wear was rather nostalgic.
We were only at the condo for 3 days and 2 nights, but we managed to pack in a lot of great fun. We spent an afternoon with some good friends from grad school - a strange twist of fate brought us back together again - ate at Marco's famous Snook Inn, played at the beach with everyone else on the island, played in the pool, went to the water park a few times and watched the fireworks from the condo porch. What a view that is!
The beach was beautiful, like always, but we've never seen so many people there. Normally, it's peaceful and practically empty, but not on a holiday! The water park was probably the highlight. The girls love water and the park is great since it's free and hardly anyone on the island goes there. So, the girls have the whole place almost to themselves.
I loved watching the fireworks from the condo. Brooke started asking for the fireworks about 2 hours before it got dark out. By the time they started, I could hardly pry her off the couch to look at them. Halfway through them, she went and lay down on the couch. Glad we didn't fight the crowds to get that reaction.
