Merry Christmas!

We were successful in getting our family portraits taken this year, but not in getting the pictures sent out to our family.  One of the bonuses of having faculty jobs is having a long winter break.  One drawback is that our break doesn't start until the week of Christmas and before that is end of the semester craziness and work days that have no end.  So, for all my family, here is a preview of the pictures that will be sent out next week.  Merry Christmas!  If you have any requests, place them now.  I included some of the funny pictures below so you could get a glimpse of how challenging the experience was.  All in all, it was successful!

Christmas Card Attempts

Our Family Christmas card photo and several attempts to capture the girls at their cutest. I clearly need a better camera. And Brooke has clearly adopted a 'signature pose.'

December 2011

Looks like we survived another fall semester. Matt and I are done grading and now trying to catch up with Christmas preparations and restoring order to the chaos in our house.

The girls have kept the Christmas spirit going in our house. I'm so glad we got the tree up during Thanksgiving week. Both girls were such a help decorating the tree this year and somehow all of the ornaments have managed to stay on the tree. Last year, Brooke couldn't help pulling them off and playing with all the little people.

We've enjoyed 2 Christmas performances from the girls this year. One was their school performance and one was with their Sunday school at church this past weekend. I recorded the school show on our old camcorder and don't have the patience to digitize the video, but part of the Sunday school one is below. Luci goes in the 4/5 yo class with Brooke, so she got to be in the show. The girls went to all the practices.

They did great with the first song of the show (Red and Green). During the 2nd song (which was 'slow' and Brooke's least favorite), a little boy pushed Luci off the stage and, flustered, she crawled off to sit with me. Of course, Brooke bailed right after that because she wanted to be with us. I managed to get Luci back up there for the 3rd song, but she only stayed for 30 seconds.

After the children's service, the girls also got to meet Santa and had a little party with their friends.

Palmtag girls go to college

I took the girls to work with me a few weeks ago and we had a great time. These are some shots of the girls playing in Plant Park - a large park on the Hillsborough River in front of our historic main building, Plant Hall.

Luci's latest

Taking Luci's 'chew' away was like removing the cork from a bottle of champagne. She's just overflowing with life. I thought she wouldn't stop talking before, well, I underestimated her. Even though my ears are getting a little tired, I just can't help but marvel at her. She makes us laugh like no one else. Here's some of the latest. I had her sing some songs for me. Can you guess what they are?

The Care Bear Store, aka. Build a Bear

This week we took the girls to the dentist and we were given the official order to phase out Luci's pacifier use. We've known this was on the horizon and truthfully, have just been putting it off because we don't want to have our little girl cry. Luci still looks so much like a little baby. Anyway, we decided to bite the bullet and go cold turkey this weekend. So, I took her to our 'traditional' pacifier farewell location - Build a Bear, so she could place her chews (pacifiers) into a stuffed friend of her choice and always have her chews close by. Well, she was a bit shy at first but after I explained how it worked, she was very excited. We even lucked out this weekend since they were having a buy 1 get 1 free deal, we even picked a bear up for Brooke too (phew!).

Brooke and Luci love their bears, if you couldn't guess. And Brooke is cracking me up because she keeps referring to them as Care Bears and asking to go back to the Care Bear store to pick out dresses for them!

As I type this, Luci is actually sleeping without her chew. There was a fair bit of crying involved, but we managed with some hand-holding. Fingers crossed we get some sleep tonight!
